IN THE STILLNESS

Many of us might recall the Gospel account of Jesus feeding the 5000 hungry and tired folks who had come to hear Him preach and be healed. (John 6:1-14) The disciples had couldn’t think of what to do to feed the people, but “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish. But what are they among so many people?ā€  Jesus would soon show the disciples the answer! All were fed with 12 baskets of leftovers besides. Five loaves and two fish….such a simple thing….a simple thing that became a banquet to the satisfaction of all!

Mother Teresa once said: ‘Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.’ Can I get an AMEN?

Lord, let me be a doer of the small things – small things done with great love. Help me me counted among those who become seeds of Your love, Your mercy, Your compassionate healing in the lives of those You place in my path. Keep me mindful of those things which You would have me to do for the benefit of others that will make such a difference in this world – all for Your glory. It is in Christ’s name I pray. AMEN.

Psalm 139:1-18 – is a reminder how personally invested God is in each of our unique lives; how precious and beloved we are – so much so that God will never leave us or forsake us no matter what situations we find ourselves in. And in those times when we might be in danger of forgetting our core identity, and the caterpillar’s questions rises up again in the midst of the storm, our Lord provides a prayer in the closing lines of the Psalm:

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts.
See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. AMEN.
