let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.
I find it interesting that those terms we use when we discuss the movers and shakers for justice and compassion in the world perseverance and focus are the same words Paul used in describing our lives of faith. It is as we perseve and maintain our focus that we are perfected in faith – a perfection that awakens faith in Christ in the lives of others.
Let us pray:
Eternal God, we give you thanks for the blessings of this day – a day intended to be lived for You and the goodness of others so that they, too, might learn to live for You by our example. Lord God, keep us focused on our purpose in this life as we become more complete change agents for You in the world. Keep us from the distractions of power and ego, guard our lips from spewing hatred and condemnation, so that focused on Your love, we might live Your love into the lives of all we encounter. Help us to persevere all in the name of Jesus! AMEN.
