IN THE STILLNESS

Pondering who we are, who God is and the relationship that exists between the human and the divine, brings a reorientation of our lives within the context of all creation. That God loves us so much and longs for us to be in relationship with the Creator through the mediation of the Son leaves me breathless!

A psalm worth pondering: Psalm 8

O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens.
Out of the mouths of babes and infants You have founded a bulwark because of Your foes, to silence the enemy and the avenger.

When I look at Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars that You have established; what are human beings that You are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?

Yet You have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor.

You have given them dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under their feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

When we take the time to ponder such things, it can’t help but transform our identity, our behaviors, the very essence of our understanding of who we are and Whose we are called to be.

Take the time to ponder – and allow the pondering to lead you to God centered action beginning today – be prepared to be amazed!

Eternal God, thank You for the many gifts of Christmas. The gifts of our lives, our loves, our opportunities to begin again as we receive the offer of Your grace, Your mercy, Your love and compassionate forgiveness. Most particularly we give You thanks for the gift of Your Son: the example of His life, the wisdom of His teachings, and the truth that we can begin again, forgiven and free to live in the light of His resurrection glory! Make us wise enough to not only ponder these things, but also empower us to go into this new year, living into those things You have led us to ponder. All in Christ’s name, we pray. AMEN.
