I invite you to s-l-o-w-l-y meditate on Psalm 51 this week. The obstacles in David’s life were enormous – obstacles made more egregious when the man after God’s own heart realized that they were obstacles of his own making. He had strayed so far from God’s will – into a place of entitlement that he used to stay home from leading his troops into battle, impregnating one of his officer’s wives, killing that same officer to cover up his sin, and then marrying the victim of what I believe was a rape pure and simple! David thought he got away with it – the prophet Nathan pulled back the curtain on David’s behavior – the obstacle of sin was so great – but never too great for God’s forgiveness – and David walked through the door of God’s grace – his heart changed, his perspective on life greatly humbled.
